Journaling with art and words.....

Starting a painting journal.....about time! I've been wanting to do this for a long time but kept thinking I didn't have the time. But what am I doing with my time anyway! I think I'm hooked......they are SO much fun to do and it's such a great way to put down memories and thoughts through painting or drawing. It's a good thing! Spend the time!

Flower Painting

This is a new painting I'm working on. We are doing this one in class. Think spring! Can't seem to paint any snow scenes! I'm thinking this painting needs something more. Any comments?

Well, it's a new year and time to get serious about painting again after all the holiday cheer. What to paint? Sometimes in the cold dreary winter months and nothing looks interesting, I head to my photos and pull out something I think would make a good painting. I'll let you know how it goes!

Painting tip of the day: When framing your work, don't ever use dark colored matboard. A nice light colored white or cream matting will set off your work beautifully. Dark mats take away from your picture and don't make it stand out which is what you want it to do! Darker matting could be used however to make a thin border between your larger mat and your picture. Also make sure your border size is at least 3 inches. A 2-inch wide border is not big enough to offset your frame. Your frame should compliment your picture and voila you have a beautiful piece of work! Make sure you use acid free mat and backing board!

The paw print is just to the left of the tip of the tail. This painting was done with many glazes especially on the water. Many times if I don't get the color right the first time I can keep glazing in order to get the intensity I'm looking for.
