Using the plastic wrap technique in this painting we will be starting in class.  It's definitely fun to see random results and incorporate them into some realsim.

"Koi"

This is the finished koi fish painting....Definitely a challenge but had a lot of fun doing it.

"Monarch"

New classes are starting and this is the first project we will be doing. I feel like it will cover a lot of different watercolor applications and the background is easy because it's just put on in any direction. Colors we will be using are follows:

Butterfly: Winsor Yellow, New Gamboge, Cadmium Orange, Burnt Sienna, Permanent Alizarin Crimson (if you don't have cadmium orange you can mix winsor yellow with alizarin) Paynes gray and burnt sienna for the dark areas.

Flowers: Winsor Yellow, New Gamboge, Cobalt blue, Alizarin, Burnt Sienna

Background: Cobalt blue, Payne's gray.....spatter with winsor yellow, burnt sienna and cob.alt blue. Also applied Thalo blue in areas to brighten.

Working on a commission piece......it's a culmination of different photos I took at Homestead Gardens and I put together for a composition. Challenging and I feel like I have to take my time with it for some reason....some paintings are like that.....the people I'm doing it for are very patient and very sweet! I'm not going to show the finished piece until I show them first......This is just a little glimpse.

Added more shaded areas as I established my light source. This is a very loose approach and I could add more to this but I like the simplicity of it and feel it could get overworked.....something I'm quite guilty of!!

We're working on these hydrangeas at the workshop.....great day of learning how to paint.....but hard work!! Thanks everyone for coming.....see you next week!
